While there have been some MIDI solutions out there for the iPhone 4S Cases and other iOS devices, Yamaha has introduced (PDF) its first MIDI interface for iOS at the Frankfurt Musicfair. In a small, black device the i-MX1 carries the needed electronics and two connectors for the included adapter cables which represent the MIDI input and ouput (with the well known 16 MIDI channels each). It does not just connect to the iPhone 4S Cases, but to the iPhone and the iPod Touch, too. Since these devices are much smaller, they are even more handy controllers. The i-MX1 is compatible to the drivers provided by the iPhone 4S Cases-OS (iOS, Core MIDI), theres no need for special drivers. An odd application made its way onto the iPhone App Store called “GameStore” a few days ago. The application was deemed an Apple internal testing tool for their iOS in-app-purchase system, and the June 2009 date -the month of the event in which in-app-purchase was formally announced- on the application’s store page seems to affirm that.Designer iPhone 4 Cases|Designer iPhone 4S Cases

Verizon Wireless’ Chief Financial Officer Fran Shammo told attendees at a conference today that Verizon sold a total 4.2 million iPhones during the holiday quarter, according to Bloomberg. Interestingly, the numbers reported by Shammo show that Verizon more than doubled iPhone sales from the previous quarter, where they sold 2 million. According to a report from USA Today, a source that worked at Apple said a 42-inch “or larger” LCD TV is being worked on and locked down in Apple design guru Jonathan Ive’s workspace. The source claimed Ive’s studio is currently home to “a slick 50-inch TV”.

This goes against most recent reports from Asian supply chain watcher DigiTimes who claimed 32- and 37-inch variants were being prepared for a summer 2012 launch. Reports from the New York Times in October claimed Apple was in the process of prototyping an Apple television after large parts suitable for an HDTV were discovered moving around Apple’s supply chains.

Apple is continuing having problems securing licensing deals for content with major cable companies and content providers preventing them from creating an “à la carte iTunes TV service”. The report cited an interview with an unidentified person close to the “Apple TV group” and two “television industry sources”. In November, CBS’s Les Moonves commented at the company’s earnings call that they had turned down a streaming deal with Apple for the Apple TV.

A major roadblock for Apple along the way has been securing content needed to make an iTV succeed. The problems Apple is having securing content deals were described in an interview with a person who worked in the Apple TV group and verified by two television industry sources. All declined to be identified because of the confidential nature of the talks.

According to the report, anticipation of an Apple smart TV is getting “big buzz” leading up to the International Consumer Electronics Show slated to kick off Jan. 10. Apple Cofounder Steve Wozniak weighed in and said he too expects Apple to enter the living room with an Apple branded HDTV:

The rest of the industry is definitely taking notes on what Apple is rumored to include in their first HDTV. Director of new product development at LG Tim Alessi said the company is paying close attention to what Apple has done with user interfaces:

“Apple’s done some amazing things with (user interface) and ease of use, so we’ll certainly keep an eye on what comes out of there”

Microsoft’s general manager of content acquisition and strategy also commented on Apple’s introduction into the TV business: “We do not discount what they are going to do in the space — they are going to come on strong.”

Latest reports from the Wall Street Journal claimed Apple was in talks with media companies regarding a Siri powered HDTV with iCloud, Airplay, and DVR functionality.

Apple just issued a press release confirming the availability of iPhone 4S in China and 21 other markets starting Friday, Jan. 13. This comes just over a week after the device received necessary certifications from the Ministry of Industry and Information and Technnology of China.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said this about the announcement in a statement earlier today:

“Customer response to our products in China has been off the charts. With the launch in China next week, iPhone 4S will be available in over 90 countries making this our fastest iPhone rollout ever.”

All other markets gaining access to the iPhone 4S beginning Jan. 13 include: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Botswana, British Virgin Islands, Cameroon, Cayman Islands, Central African Republic, China, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Grenada, Guam, Guinea Conakry, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Niger, Senegal, St. Vincent and The Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos and Uganda.

Although there is no indication of carriers in the press release, the country’s third-largest carrier China Unicom is currently the sole provider of the iPhone in China. Apple has not confirmed whether they plan on expanding carriers to reach an untapped market outside China Unicom ofapproximately 1.33 billion people. As of their latest earnings call, CEO Tim Cook announced $3.8 billion of sales in China for the June quarter, which is a six-fold increase from the year-ago quarter and it is 13.3-percent of Apple’s entire business by revenue. Apple is expected to announce its 2012 first-quarter financial results on Tuesday, Jan, 24.

Furthermore, The Guardian said Apple’s primary competitor in the streaming device market, Google, is “considered a more likely bidder.”

Reports surfaced late Jan. 3 claiming Apple wants to stream Premier League football content to its Apple TV service.

The Premier League will consider bids for next season after the rights to screen football games expires at the end of the 2011 to 2012 season.

The Daily Mail reported Jan. 3 that both Apple and Google are interested in purchasing rights to Premier League content for their respective Apple TV and Google TV services. Such streaming content is considered premium and could help solidify Apple TV in the United Kingdom while boosting iPad sales.

Apple’s U.K. iTunes subscription infrastructure is secure, but Apple TV is str***ling due to a lack of streaming apps offered within the country. Apple TV in the U.K. presently offers a subscription package to Major League Baseball. Therefore, a Premier League app would compliment the available selection considerably.

Following multiple reports claiming that Apple is holding an event later this month to discuss new media-related services, Clayton Morris shared some tidbits that he has heard from sources.
